There is way more to this book than the shocking title let's on. It covers a broad range of topics essential to selling and business development and lead generation. I found it an easy read with its small digestible chapters. There are several themes in the book but the most important is around the importance of human interaction in the age of the internet and social media. From the title you might get the impression that Joanne is down on using technology, but it's quite the opposite. Joanne does an excellent job of articulating where and wen to use electronic means and exactly when the human touch is required. Technology is essential but in the end it is still about relationships and Joanne defines well where the threshold is between one and the other. You'll find a great deal of focus around prospecting here. When to use social media and when to stop being "efficient" when it comes to relationships. This naturally leads into a discussion of the greatest lead generation source of all - referrals. It was a welcome treat to read the latest data and impact to referral selling. You won't get specific "how-to" on referrals here (for that you will want Joanne's other excellent book - No More Cold Calling) but you will get all the principles needed to understand why referrals should be the primary focus for every business development and lead generating professional. The author could have certainly bolstered her argument that people and not technology seals the deal by quoting authors such as Ryan Holiday and B.J.. Mendelson rather than "cyber hipsters" such as the Linkedin founder and others whose sole objective is to sell us on the Web, the Cloud, Social Media or whatever they are calling it currently.
I really enjoyed this book. It was really short but I got loads of ideas which I can use tomorrow.
Not many new insights or ideas for those of us who spend the majority of our prospecting on the phone.
I went to LinkedIn.com and did exactly what Joanne Black advised. Enjoyed the insights and time tested wisdom Joanne Black shares with her readers. I've already recommended it to others.
This should be required reading for people in sales of any kind! So many people "hide" behind the newest and latest technology and forget that people like to do business with people, not technology. I started with this book and should have read her classic "No More Cold Calling" first. Better late than never!!
Glad I took the time to read this book. Great review, but also learned
a few new things. She does not poopoo technology so don't get that idea. She wants us
to use technology to our advantage. In the end it's about relationships.

Well, I got a free copy to review. I planned to skim through it in 45-minutes and post a review. Instead, I read it cover to cover.
Now, I’m ordering copies to give to my sales team and my family members who are in sales. And I’m a fairly successful sales trainer and author.
